Spices
Trying to differentiate your Short-Term Rental / AirBnb? Here's a great tip for you...
I’ve always hated excess waste. I grew up in a household where we always recycled, didn’t buy excess anything, composted, and bought as much as possible from the local bulk foods. That’s why, when I travel and cook (which is usually breakfast - I have an adverse reaction to purchasing breakfast, it’s the easiest meal to make),I usually make eggs. They’re so simple and easy to make, full of protein, and set you up for the day. I digress, the key to a good egg is spices. This is where my challenge lies. I hate going and purchasing basic spices (salt, pepper, paprika, etc.) that will be used for only a couple of days. If I am like many other renters, people leave them in the rental hoping they’ll go to good use or at least the cleaning lady will take them home. I just pray they are not being thrown out.
Now I know the age old debate, STR’s are not hotels. But here’s the facts, according to AirDNA’s U.S. 2023 Short-Term Rental Outlook report, STRs nights supplied to increase by 25%+, but due to strong supply, occupancy per STR will decline. So in an over supply world where you’re trying to differentiate your STR from another, it’s the little things that count. And spices are such an easy way to “spice things up” (see what I did there?).
A quick check on Amazon and I found a ton of spice racks (spices included) for less than $50. Seems like a great and simple way to reduce waste while providing a little “something” for your visitors that’ll go a long way. And the best thing is, you can usually buy the spices in bulk as well so that as people start using them, you can just refill for a couple of dollars!
